Grain production farm in Tweeling
This farm is located in a good grain production area in the North Eastern Free State.
The farm consists of:
110 hectares medium to high potential arable lands
18 hectares of natural grazing
TOTAL 128 Hectares
The average yield for the different grains is:
Maize 4.0 to 5.5 Tons/ha
Soybeans 1.6 to 2.2 Tons/ha
With attention to the chemical status of the soil the average yields can be improved.
NOTE: Some of the arable lands (+/- 40%) were not in production for more than 15 years but utilized for grazing.
The average rainfall is 650mm per annum.
The farm is divided in 3 camps with 2 camps equipped with drinking water.
Water is supplied by 1 strong borehole with a windmill and 1 cement dam.
The boarder fences are in a good condition, but the inner fences need attention.
When crop residue is available some livestock can utilize it in winter times.
